Ashadi Ekadashi is observed on the Ashadha Shukla Paksha Ekadashi tithi. It is believed that on this day Lord Vishnu goes into the state of deep sleep for four months. This Ekadashi is also called ‘Dev Shayani Ekadashi’. This Ekadashi is celebrated with a great grandeur in the Vithoba temple. The whole temple is decorated with colourful flowers and lights, which brightens the entire environment of the temple. The devotees start flocking the temple right from the night and start worshiping and chanting the holy name of the Lord. On this day, special Guest of honour gets a privilege to perform the Divine aarti of God. Kaakad Aarti is performed at 4.00 am in the morning, then from 5.00 am to 7.00 am, the Lord is anointed with Panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, sugar, honey). God is adorned with new clothes and ornaments, after that the morning aarti is performed with yantras and Mantropachar at 7.00 am. Thousands of devotees attend this aarti and feel blessed by the darshan of the Lord Vithoba.
The Kalyan Charity Trust organises a Dindi Yatra from B. K. Birla College on this auspicious day. First the palanquin of the Lord is decorated with flowers. The miniature idol of the Lord is then laid in it. Then, the palanquin is taken out happily by the devotees, who perform archana. Large number of devotees takes part in this holy pilgrimage and different types of Jhankiyan are also seen in this Dindi.
Children participate in this yatra with lot of joy and devotion. Dressed in colourful attires, they perform lezim dance throughout the Yatra. Devotees also participate in the Yatra by singing hymns and bhajans in the honour of Lord Vithoba. Arrangement of water and tea is made for the devotees participating in the Yatra. This dindi yatra reaches Vithoba temple between 10.00 am to 10.30 am, where children take great joy in performing their arts in pavilion of the temple.
At 11.00 am the Bhog Aarti of the Lord is performed, thousands of devotees enlighten themselves spiritually by participating in this Bhog Aarti. To take blessings from lord Vithoba, devotees keep visiting the temple throughout this auspicious day. Many devotees come with separate Dindi Yatras and dance and sing along in the same rhythm. On this auspicious day, around 1 lakh devotees come to the temple and take the divine darshan of the God. At 7.00 pm in the evening, aarti is performed with instruments and Veda Mantras. The aarti is attended by large number of devotees and they seek blessings from Lord Vithoba.
